Fighting for What His Warrior Fight Club edition by Laura Kaye Romance eBooks Reviews

  • I am loving the Warriors Fight Club series!

Fighting for What’s His is exactly what the title is about. Simply put, a grown up Shayna has fallen in love with her childhood crush, her brother’s best friend. But that’s most definitely not all it is. Shayna and Billy carry so much guilt; guilt over the deaths of persons close to them. At times that guilt is blinding, oppressive. Neither has walked away from their trauma unscathed, whether physically or emotionally.

Shayna is his best friend’s younger sister and he gladly agreed to share his apartment with her. She’s just moved there and gotten a job as a photojournalist at the local paper. What began as a temporary arrangement has led to desires neither can deny. It’s also opened the door to a friendship that is healing them bit by bit. All he has to do is remember who she is.

Denial is the name of the game until walking away is impossible. Fighting For What’s His. What they share is passionate, fun, healing, and beautiful.

I like that Shayna was not enlisted because it removes her just a bit. She has her own traumas, but they’re different from Billy’s. Her brother is enlisted so she fully understands his traumas. She’s bold and fun. She makes him face what he’s put off coming to terms with for too long. He’s watched Noah heal and fall in love. Can he have that too? Does he want that? Want her? Yes!

How they meet, right in the beginning of the book will have you smiling and laughing. It’s perfect! Shayna’s zest for colorful descriptives keeps you laughing. Billy and Shayna make you feel good as you watch them fall for and heal themselves and each other.
  • Holy Mixed Martial Arts!!! I am loving this series. I am learning things about returning Vets of military conflicts that I didn't see before. I am gaining a deep respect for those that help vets to make it through each and every day. Thank you for your service isn't enough. The men and women in uniform deserve so much more. Authors like Laura Kaye are doing amazing things. I devour her books for entertainment pleasure but keep coming back for the Ah Ha moments.

Billy Parish is a member of the WFC. It is one of the few ways he has to deal with his PTSD. He needs the explosive outlet to deal after a forced retirement to deal with survivors guilt. When his surviving ranger team mate Ryan asks him to put a roof over his sister's head there is no way he can say now.

Billy knows he has some issues. Billy knows he won't be easy to live with. What Billy doesn't know is how he will deal with the feelings he has for Shayna when he is supposed to be protecting her not lusting after her.

Shayna has her own issues, but she has kept them to herself. She carries a guilt that is all consuming. That isn't her only secret. She has crushed on Billy Parish for years. As far as she can tell it is a crush not reciprocated.

Shayna is moving to D.C. after being offered a job as photographer for the Washington Gazette. The plan is to stay with Billy for a long enough to get to know the area, find a place of her own and move on. She doesn't want to move on. Billy doesn't want her to move on. Communication is key, but it seems as if they have a broken lock.

This story is full of sexual tension. This story is full of eye opening revelations. Veterans of military conflicts continue to struggle long after they return to American soil. Billy is lucky in the sense that Shayna gets it. Shayna is supportive. Shayna could be everything if he let her in. Kudos to all the Shaynas out there.

The story's ending is explosive. It is just what Billy needed to knock some sense into him. He finds the strength to confess his feelings. Even more important he stands by Shayna's side, protective and caring. The heat, the confessions, the emotions, the deep love rocked my world. Billy and Shayna will make beautiful babies in the future. Hopefully the author will show us in another book.
  • Fighting For What's His was a fun play on the roommates to lovers trope! Add in the fact that Billy, our hero, is the best friend of Shayna's older brother and I just knew their romance was going to be rife with tension. That tension played out beautifully, balanced by the couple's easy camaraderie and fun wordplay. I enjoyed the banter as Billy & Shayna forged a supportive friendship, helping each other to face not just day to day issues, but the deeply buried guilt they each harbored. I have to say, Shayna stole the show in this book. She is an amazing heroine and I loved everything about her! She's intelligent, funny as all get out, and not afraid to speak up for what she wants. If only all women were as comfortable in their own skin!
Of course, the rest of the crew from the fight club made appearances, which left me so ready for the next book in the series! My one "issue", which is the reason I didn't give this book five stars, is that Billy still seemed sort of lost at the end of the book. I know it was left at him seeking more help to deal with his demons, but I'd have loved for him to have found a little happiness in his career the way that Shayna was able to. Hopefully we'll see that resolved in future books.
